A
journalist, essayist, syndicated columnist and speaker, Marnell Jameson writes
regularly for the Los Angeles Times, Woman’s Day, Family
Circle, Child, Fit Pregnancy and other national and regional magazines. Her
work ranges from serious reporting to humorous essays, and focuses on women’s
issues, health and psychology, family relationships, and interior design. As a
nationally syndicated columnist, Jameson writes a weekly humor column, “At Home
with Marni Jameson.” The home design reality column appears in newspapers across
the country, and reaches 4 million readers each week.
As a keynote speaker and seminar leader, Jameson frequently speaks to
businesses, schools and other writers about writing compelling copy, coming
across effectively on paper, and getting published. She has also led writing and
communication workshops for top public relations agencies and businesses to
groom their writing team to deliver more persuasive and focused messages.
Before becoming a top-tier freelance journalist, Jameson was president of
Jameson Communications Group, a marketing and public relations firm based in
Sherman Oaks, CA. She ran the award-winning firm for 12 years before selling it.
For nine years, she taught writing and public relations courses for UCLA
Extension. She is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors,
the Denver Women’s Press Club, and Pen Center USA West, and has received more
than two dozen professional writing awards.
Also an author, Jameson’s book, California Palms is a critically
praised collection of short stories, (Sunstone Press, 1990). She received her
master’s degree in creative writing from Vermont College, and her bachelor’s
degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, William Allen White School
of Journalism, where she graduated with distinction. She is a frequent guest
speaker, and currently lives outside of Denver, Colorado, with her husband and
two daughters.
